Mel grew up in Leeds and attended the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh attaining a bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine and surgery. She initially worked in Canada at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon before returning to the UK and working in mixed animal practice. She currently lives and works in Cumbria.
